WHO WE ARE

We're the Skate Hunnies - the largest roller skate community in LA. Female-founded, community-focused, and fueled by fun, we provide meetups, pop-up events, entertainment, skate lessons, and more.

Our most popular event, Thursday Night Skate, happens weekly at 7:00pm in rotating locations around Los Angeles. 🐝 ✨

OUR STORY

Born out of the pandemic, the Skate Hunnies started in 2020 as a space for people to gather safely to move through it all together. Our founder, Jen Yonda, had a vision of building a women's inline skate crew shortly after moving to Los Angeles from the East Coast.

Jen first experienced group skating with LA Friday Night Skate, a weekly advanced skate that’s been taking over the streets since the “good old days.” Finding the group inaccessible for many new skaters and lacking female representation, Jen dreamed of creating her own group of women to skate with.

She started hosting meetups for a handful of Hunnies each Thursday, and the group grew organically. After a few months, attendance had exploded to 50+ attendees a week. Jen quickly fell in love with connecting people from all different walks of life through skating.

As the group grew and diversified, our community craved new streets to explore. Soon, a roster of routes was designed to entertain and inspire our skaters. These routes traverse some of LA's most iconic neighborhoods: Santa Monica, Venice, Beverly Hills, DTLA, and Culver City.

OUR MISSION

Since our inception, our mission to empower, inspire, and connect people has touched thousands of lives. We strive to foster a supportive community that thrives on joy and shared experiences, and build confidence among our women skaters, specifically.

Our commitment extends to promoting safer streets through organizing events that show that streets can be for the people. By offering free community rides, skate lessons, and pop-up events, we contribute to a healthier, better connected community.
