In the skate world, Halloween is one of those special nights every year when skaters can dress like quirky sea creatures and no one can say anything about it. For Halloween this year, as usual, the Los Angeles skate community was hungry for the chance to show off their skills and their best costumes. And let me tell you, they showed up. Our A Journey to Atlantis Skate & Dance Party brought together over 200 skaters, dancers and dreamers for one of LA’s most unforgettable skate parties of the year.
More than just a party, it was a glimpse into the world of creativity, movement, and connection that LA’s largest roller skating community, The Skate Hunnies, has been curating the past few years. As an avid roller skater myself, I joined The Skate Hunnies in early 2024 looking for a community to share my passion with. I was drawn to the organization’s message of spreading joy through movement, as well as the weekly rollouts around the city, because it meant I could stay active while constantly making new friends in the underground skate scene.
I didn’t know exactly what to expect from the event, but if I know there’s going to be roller skating (AND costumes?!), I’m all in!

The Experience: From the Surface to the Deep
Inside a massive 360° airplane hangar, blue oceanic hues shimmered across the walls as pulsing beats and glowing costumes filled the night. A circular dance floor surrounded the DJ booth, keeping the vibe electric, with waves of skaters gliding through the crowd while dancers and performers added layers of movement and magic.
This wasn’t your typical Halloween party. It was an immersive LA experience that blurred the line between roller rink, dance floor, and art installation — and that’s exactly what makes the Skate Hunnies community so special.

The night came alive through collaboration between Skate Hunnies, Tadaa Coffee, Ukiyo Movement, Brew Beats, and Rhythm Stilters — local crews uniting around the idea that art and movement can build community. Fueled by signature cold brew elixirs from Tadaa Coffee’s Dream Steam Espresso Machine and the most iconic fish turned DJ booth courtesy of Fins of Fortune, party-goers enjoyed fire performers and roller skaters spinning across the floor, with every detail reflecting our shared love for creativity and connection.
Everywhere you looked, the floor was filled with main character energy, and attendees couldn’t help but feel like they were living out a movie — a reflection of how powerful the LA creative scene can be when communities come together.
Why It Mattered
In a city overflowing with events, A Journey to Atlantis stood out by creating something real. It blended roller skating, dance, art, and community into one unforgettable night, with a space for people to connect, express themselves, and celebrate moving our bodies.
The Skate Hunnies’ mission has always been about more than skating . . . it’s about movement as medicine, community as connection, and joy as activism. On this night, that mission shone brighter than ever.
